Illumination Sensation
The State Fair of Texas is an annual state fair held at historic Fair Park, a complex recognized for its beautiful landscaping and unique collection of art deco architecture. The fair has taken place every year since 1886 except for varying periods during World War I and World War II. It usually begins the last Friday in September and ends 24 days later. Founded in Dallas in 1886 by a group of civic leaders who wanted to focus attention on their young city’s accomplishments and prospects, the State Fair of Texas has consistently offered its visitors a first look at the newest and best in products and performances. Many national corporations and local businesses participate in the Fair as sponsors and exhibitors. ILLUMINATION SENSATION The lights are big and bright when the sun goes down on the State Fair. Set to music celebrating Texas heritage and American pride, the Illumination sensation is a dazzling display of color, pyrotechnics and dancing waters located on the historic Fair Park Esplanade. The 20-minute jaw-dropping show includes an octagonal video display, grand columns of fire, and fireworks. Also incorporated into the show are the Fair Park Esplanade dancing fountains. In all, 272 water jets become a part of the Illumination Sensation, sending bursts of water, some 100 feet into the air, at times. Colorful lights line the jets, pool and surrounding buildings, creating special effects to the spectacular show.
