Texas Skyway
The State Fair of Texas is an annual state fair held at historic Fair Park, a complex recognized for its beautiful landscaping and unique collection of art deco architecture. The fair has taken place every year since 1886 except for varying periods during World War I and World War II. It usually begins the last Friday in September and ends 24 days later. Founded in Dallas in 1886 by a group of civic leaders who wanted to focus attention on their young city’s accomplishments and prospects, the State Fair of Texas has consistently offered its visitors a first look at the newest and best in products and performances. Many national corporations and local businesses participate in the Fair as sponsors and exhibitors. TEXAS SKYWAY Colorful gondolas gracefully float above the color and commotion that exists at street level throughout Fair Park. Those gondolas represent the Texas Skyway, which debuted in 2007. Similar to ski lift gondolas, the cars transport visitors 65 feet above the ground for a ride that is one-third of a mile long. The Skyway is built to carry 5,000 people an hour in eight-passenger gondolas that travel 600 feet per minute. The gondolas' design is Art Deco-inspired (in keeping with the architecture of Fair Park) and boasts a state-of-the-art safety system that ensures a safe, smooth ride with a panoramic perspective of Fair Park.
