Frisco RoughRiders
Currently the Class AA affiliate of the MLB’s Texas Rangers, the Frisco RoughRiders play in the South Division of the Texas League. Prior to 2003, the Shreveport, Louisiana–based franchise was known as the Shreveport Captains (and the SwampDragons in 2002). In 2003, the team was purchased by Mandalay Entertainment with Tom Hicks, the former owner of the Texas Rangers, and the Southwest Sports Group, which moved it to Frisco, Texas, to become the RoughRiders. The team currently plays home games at Dr. Pepper Ballpark in Frisco, which opened in April 2003. The stadium is unique and innovative, with both bullpens surrounded by seats and a rentable pool area just beyond the right center field wall.
